Gagnon Homeowner Common Maintenance Guide and Instructions
What
do I need to do to clean my well water filter?
1. Shut Power to Well Pump
2. Shut Power to Heat Pump
3. Place bucket under filter and open bottom valve until water stops.
4. Unscrew clear plastic housing counterclockwise. (You may notice
additional water draining.)
5. Pull out cartridge and rinse off sediment in bucket. Rub hands up and
down motion to clean.
6. Put Filter back in, screw back in clear plastic housing, close valve.
7. Turn on power to well pump and heat pump
How do I determine if my heat pump is out on fault?
1. Open removable panel on front of heat pump. (Located beside pipes
entering unit)
2. You will see a white board in the unit. If it has a solid green light
than it is not out on fault. If there is a fast green flashing light than it
is locked down on fault.
3. To get the fault code you need a screwdriver. There are two pins located
on the board beside a red block of dip switches. You will see the word test
under the pins. Short these pins with the screwdriver and count the blinks.
This tells us why it locked down. Then call Gagnon with this info.
What
do I need to do to go from Heating to Cooling?
1. Change your thermostat from heating to cooling mode.
2. There is a gray control in the basement that says Ranco on it. If you
have bleed on your system than you need to change this control. You press
the set button until you see H1. Once you see H1 press the up or down arrow
and you will see C1, then press set. Now you are in cooling. Do the same to
change back from cooling to heating.
3. If your system is radiant heat, than you have a control on the wall that
says either RP106 or RP206. This is a rather large box on the wall with a
clear plastic cover. There are twist brackets on the right side to open it.
This control has a red switch in it labeled Heat/Off/Cool. Place this switch
in the desired position. There will also be an Even/Odd Switch in this box.
Change this to even or odd depending on whether it is an even or odd year.
What do I do with my Air Filters?
1. If you have electrostatic filters you can wash them in the sink or with a
garden hose. Notice the arrow on the side of the filter. Wash the filter in
the direction that says backwash. The directional arrow for the airflow is
also listed. Make sure this arrow faces toward the unit. (away from the
living space)
2. If you have pleated air filters you just need to replace them. Do not
clean these filters.
How
do I know if my bleed is working?
1. Look at the temperature display on the same Gray Ranco control in the
basement that you had to change from C1 to H1. Typically this is set to 48
or 50 degrees with a 2 degree differential. This means if it is set to H1
for heating and is set at 48 with 2 degree differential than the bleed will
open at 46 degrees and close at 48. You will notice the silver weight in the
flowmeter set at a certain GPM. If the silver weight is on the bottom than
it is not working. Remember that the unit needs to be running in order for
this to work.
2. If the well water temp is cold and there is no water going out the bleed
than perhaps the ball valve on the return line going back to the well is all
the way open. Sometimes people open it because they think it should be open.
Well it's not. Close this valve a little until you see the silver weight
rise in the flowmeter. We need to set that at a specific GPM so look on this
page to see what that should be.
